Sir Radburn, I can relate to your books. I have more questions?
do the questions have to do with anything out of the ordinary?
She knows, remembers. She made the game.
Hello Tim Radburn,
My name is Christopher. I’ve been looking for inspiration to write a novel around time-travel fiction and the search for lost loved ones, and came across your work. There’s something wonderfully elusive about your books, vague enough to intrigue without giving everything away.
I was formerly an editor for a small publishing company in the UK. In 2018, I reviewed a poetry submission that has some strangely similar thematic undertones, ‘hearts of cities’, particularly around loss, places and the people we carry with us. Stark, sculpted quality, leaving plenty to the reader’s interpretation, similar thematic elements to yours. It stuck with me. We had to reject it on length, and the author never revised it.
I contacted the author inquiring why she’d never simply put it on a blog or somewhere online. She said she’d never felt the inclination, but didn’t mind my request to share it as part of my inspo research, provided it remained under her pseudonym which happens to be the name of someone on this thread. Small world, perhaps.
Cheers, mate. Perhaps a next round of inspiration to keep at your future series.
– Christopher
Title: Snapshots and Reveries
Up on the rooftop
Beneath a plenilune sky
Bright lights and city sounds
Sharing secrets ten stories high
Smiles and passing glances
Snapshots of you and I
I close my eyes to keep them still
It’s a temporary madness
These empty spaces I fill
With snapshots of you
One is all that I’ll need
To keep you here in my safe haven
My reverie
Down a never-ending hallway of doors
I found the one where your heart stays
The fortunate accident I was looking for
You, intertwined in this secret place
I followed you down a boulevard into a desolate scene
Enamored by the sounds of your chimerical melodies
With dreams that withstood the tests of time
We created a world of our own
There was never enough of you and I
Yet you said you wanted more
With your dreams of glowing seas
I watched you from the boardwalk
As you turned your back to me
Our hearts began to drift, feelings distrait
You disenchanted our world to find a better escape
Flawed in my reflections and so inept to believe
The catalyst to my misadventures
The melodies you wrote for me
I went to the Moon to get a bird’s eye view
Back to the rooftop I went to find you
Up the stairs I came calling you home
Eyes wary to the light, I wake up alone
Rewinding the clock just to sleep awake
Snapshots of you come and go like a figure eight
You’re gone, but never too hard to find
I close my eyes again
Your hand is still holding mine
There isn’t much time before we go
If you don’t love me then just pretend
My heart feels heavy as this comes to a close
Yours has been mired
My love, my soul, my friend
Little did I know
Only a bird’s eye view could see
Your heart didn’t fall, it flew away from me
I left the rooftop and kept watch from the Moon
I sang one last melody as I waved goodbye to you
From afar I remain but I’ll always admire
Eyes back open, my requiem retires
I’ve reminisced in all the wrong places
I’ve wandered ten-thousand steps too far
It’s time to head back to the boulevard
It’s time to accept what we no longer are
My heart ruminates down the east coast
These bright lights and city sounds aren’t the same
Remembering how to forget is what I miss the most
Nostalgia at its finest, the happiest kind of pain
Back on that rooftop
The snapshots of you and I
Are memories I’ll forever hold
Secrets I’ve kept all this time
The story of our lives
My last reverie before
The night we became strangers
When I left my heart in Baltimore
